Looking back

The SD Foodie take

Editorial commentary written from Roger’s original photograph and caption. Roger’s own words are the quoted photo note above.

A crowded table holds macaroni and noodles in broth, scrambled eggs and ham on toast, steamed milk custard, egg custard and iced tea, on a yellow paper menu mat.

So simple but it hits the spot every time, Roger wrote. Two weeks earlier he had called a similar spread one of his favorites for local-style breakfast and milk custard, and noted it gets packed — but sharing a table is normal.

The quick critique

What stood out

  • Steamed milk custard
  • Scrambled eggs on toast
  • Macaroni soup

Bottom line

Archive verdict

A Hong Kong breakfast institution that Roger kept going back to.
