The photo note

It's been ages since I've stepped foot into this #Viet joint! The flavor is good but totally localized to HK taste buds so it is far from being authentic! #vietnamese #lochiu #ngonqua #foodography #foodforfoodies #foodspotting #goodeats #grub #hkig #ighk…

The SD Foodie take

Editorial commentary written from Roger’s original photograph and caption. Roger’s own words are the quoted photo note above.

The collage shows beef stir-fried with tomato and pineapple beside red tomato rice, a red curry soup, fresh rolls with dipping sauce and a bowl of pho with onions.

The flavor is good, Roger wrote, but totally localized to Hong Kong taste buds, so it is far from authentic. As a regular eater of Vietnamese food in San Diego, he had the reference point to say so.

The quick critique

What stood out

  • Tomato rice with beef
  • Fresh rolls
  • Localized pho

Bottom line

Archive verdict

Tasty, but judge it as Hong Kong Vietnamese — not the real thing.
