Looking back

The SD Foodie take

Editorial commentary written from Roger’s original photograph and caption. Roger’s own words are the quoted photo note above.

The ají de gallina is plated the traditional way: shredded chicken in a creamy yellow ají amarillo sauce with grated cheese, half a boiled egg, a black olive and a dome of rice. Roger spelled out every component in the caption.

It was one of four posts from the same meal. A glass of chicha morada and a can of Inca Kola came first — drinks Roger said he gets every time he hits up a Peruvian place — then a ceviche mixto with big-kernel corn and sweet potato, and a bistec a lo pobre with fries, plantains and a fried egg. The posts never name the restaurant, so the archive keeps it as a Pacific Beach Peruvian meal.

The quick critique

What stood out

  • Ají de gallina with egg and olive
  • Ceviche mixto with choclo
  • Chicha morada and Inca Kola, every time

Bottom line

Archive verdict

A full Peruvian table in PB, ordered like someone who already knew exactly what to get.
