Looking back

The SD Foodie take

Editorial commentary written from Roger’s original photograph and caption. Roger’s own words are the quoted photo note above.

The photo sets two very different glasses side by side: a pale, foamy pint of Societe’s Apprentice IPA and a darker, amber Belgian-style ale in a stemmed glass. Ordering one of each is the simplest way to see how wide a brewery’s range runs.

This was not Roger’s first Societe post that month — an earlier December photo shows a plain Societe IPA in North Park. Coming back within a few weeks to try more of the lineup says more about the brewery than any tasting note could.

The quick critique

What stood out

  • An IPA and a Belgian-style ale side by side
  • A return visit to the same brewery within weeks
  • Proper glassware for each style

Bottom line

Archive verdict

A side-by-side tasting that shows a San Diego brewery earning a repeat visit in the same month.
