The Varnish

Downtown, Los Angeles$$$Status unconfirmed

A hidden speakeasy-style cocktail bar tucked behind Cole's French Dip downtown, which Roger rated 3 stars in 2015 and described simply as a 'Speakeasy.'

Status unconfirmed

Current status could not be confirmed with confidence: Difford's Guide lists The Varnish as permanently closed, but an events-venue directory (TheVendry) still shows it as an active, bookable venue behind Cole's with recent press mentions, and Cole's own current website does not reference it either way. Marked unknown pending a firmer source; confirm before planning a visit.
