Days after the New York posts, Roger posted that he was on his way to Seattle, Victoria and Vancouver. The food posts from that week make a neat little tour of the region.
Victoria came first. A Brussels waffle arrived buried under whipped cream and berry compote. A bison burger with truffle fries came with a local Fat Tug IPA, which Roger said made the pairing. Breakfast in nearby Langford was a smoked salmon Benedict, and a Laotian restaurant in Victoria served up a bowl of panang curry. Roger also picked up a Salt Spring Island IPA and brought another local beer home to San Diego.
The ferry back to Vancouver came with breakfast on board, and Canada came with its obligatory stop: a trip to Canada is never complete without Tim Hortons, Roger wrote.
Seattle got the Pike Place double: Beecher’s mac and cheese in a paper cup and a salmon piroshky from Piroshky Piroshky. And in Vancouver, the trip hit its ritual. A trip to Van is never complete without Japadog, Roger said, calling the spicy cheese terimayo a dog that hits the spot each and every time.
As with everything in Travel Eats, these are 2013 records rather than a current guide. They do show a consistent travel habit: order the local specialty, and drink the local beer.
