“I found Jinya to be decent the first time dining here when they had just opened up last year. Their black tonkotsu was just average but edible. This second time around, we ordered something a little different. Decided to go with their Cha Cha Cha (which is garlic flavored with thick noodles and char shu) and the spicy miso ramen. Not only was the broth mediocre but the noodles weren't cooked properly. The texture just wasn't right.”

Roger rated this 2 stars, saying the black tonkotsu was just average but edible on his first visit not long after it opened, and on a return trip both the Cha Cha Cha garlic ramen and the spicy miso ramen suffered from mediocre broth and noodles that weren't cooked properly.
This Pacific Beach location closed in January 2017 and became Menyu Ramen Taphouse under the same ownership group; that successor restaurant has itself since closed. This page keeps Roger's dated review as a record, not as a place to visit.

Roger found the black tonkotsu just average on his first visit, and on a return trip found both the Cha Cha Cha garlic ramen and spicy miso ramen let down by mediocre broth and improperly cooked noodles. (From an unpublished Yelp draft review, never posted publicly.)
Stay in the neighborhood

A Pacific Beach sushi counter Roger calls the most authentic Japanese spot in town, praised for reservation-only demand, sushi-bar seating with the chefs, and standout sashimi, chirashi and uni.

Roger rated this 4 stars, admitting he'd passed this Garnet Avenue breakfast spot for years -- by car, skateboard, and on foot -- always wondering about the long line, before finally trying it for breakfast.

Roger rated this 4 stars, calling it decent pho with quick service and, at the time, the only spot in PB for it.
